The Bolshoi Theater Tour, or Backstage Bolshoi Tour, takes you around this world famous opera and ballet theater, one of the five preserved Imperial Theaters of Russia. Founded by a decree of Catherine the Great and housed in the building commissioned by Alexander II in 1856 for his coronation, this theater has become the epitome of the Imperial grandeur and the best of the Russian ballet.
The tour takes you around the stately historical building in Teatralnaya Square, and you will visit the theater room with gilded interiors and crimson plush upholstery, take a seat in the box next to the royal box on the belle etage tier, go up the seven tiers to admire the massive crystal chandelier and the stage from above, and then climb even higher, to the training stage located on the level of the chariotte of God Apollo you see on the faсade. Private imperial rooms are open to the public today, and are included into the tour, so is the theater museum that features costumes and photos of the famous Russian ballet dancers.
