If you would like to experience real Russia, come in winter! No, it is not that cold and actually streets in Moscow are cleaned of snow and it is comfortable to walk outside – provided you are properly dressed, of course. All the Moscow sights and attractions look very scenic in winter and yes, we do have the biggest in the world skating rink in the historical VDNKh location – and even one in Red Square! But it is more important to see Moscow when the night comes – fancy light designs, numerous gigantic Christmas trees and decorations, crowds of happy people who came to the city center to admire Moscow at night, busy restaurants and shops – all make a walk through central Moscow in the evening an experience to remember. And, of course there is another benefit – during winter season the museums are not as crowded as in summer and you virtually have all the space and art treasures to yourself. Winter is also the high season for theaters, notably the world famous Bolshoi, which runs evening performances daily and adds matinees over weekends.
